Default PvP 101...

Ok guys, time to answer some noob questions.

I have read the GW manual and still dont think I fully understand PvP. Ok, so I have made a PvE char. first who is currently level 15. Now, the manual says that all the skills I unlock here I can unlock in PvP, which leads me to question #1...where do I unlock them?

Ok question number 2 is: The manual also says that all runes and weapon upgrades I unlock are available on the NEXT PvP char I make? Ok so lets say for example I get my guy to level 20 and go PvP and unlock a rune. Does this mean this PvE char can use it? Only the next PvP char I unlock can? Well what if I made a PvP char and he unlocked it...could he use it?

#3 Do you HAVE to make a PvP char to get fully engaged in PvP...like will my PvE char have acess to everything a PvP char would?

Thanks

1. Whenever you acquire a new skill on a PvE character, it will unlock it for your account. You should see a message box saying "Skill Unlocked!" and a description of the skill.

2. The manual is outdated on weapon creation; PvP-only characters now can create new weapons and armor via the equipment panel by pressing J on the keyboard. This allows you to create new equipment with the upgrades that you have just unlocked.

PvE characters do not get the benefit of unlocks, so you cannot add unlocked upgrades to them. You'll have to buy the upgrades yourself or just create a PvP character.

3. PvP-only characters can instantly create equipment with anything that is unlocked on your account, as described above. In addition, PvP-only characters can use any skills you have unlocked. PvE characters are limited to what you have already found or bought, and must buy skills even if they are already unlocked on your account.

Come join us in Gladiator's Arena.

1. Every time you buy a skill (or receive it as a quest reward in Prophecies) that's not already unlocked on your account, you will see a "Skill Unlocked!" pop-up box.

2. Every time you identify a drop in PvE that has a component you haven't unlocked on it, you will see am "Item Unlocked!" pop-up box. If you unlock an item through Balthazar faction, it's only available for your PvP characters. To have it on your PvE character, you must buy it or receive it as a drop.

3. Preparing a PvE character for PvE is time consuming and expensive. Previously, serious PvP'ers went through the trouble due to the availability of superior items that weren't available in PvP creation. Due to a recent update, PvP characters are quite equal to properly prepared PvE characters. You should use a PvP character if your PvE character doesn't have all of the necessary equipment. If your PvE character is properly equipped, it's a matter of looks. Do you want to be seen on obs mode with PvP items or do you want to be seen in your 15k armor?

As to the part in question 1 about where to unlock things in PvP - the Priest of Balthazar. He can be found in the Great Temple of Balthazar, which is in the Battle Isles - where a PvP character starts. They are also in other places, such as Heroes' Ascent, Guild Hall (not sure if they have to be purchased, but I don't think so) and maybe various other arena areas.

Thanks for the replies guys, answered a bunch of my questions

But I guess what I am asking is this:

Lets say I only have one character...a level 20 PvE guy. What benefits will I recieve from making a PvP character of the same type? I mean, the only things the PvP guy will have is items unlocked from the PvE guy right? Or will the PvE guy not be able to use the runes and weapons unlocked from PvPing?

Basically what is the advantage of creating a PvP char.

Thanks

A PvP character has all skills, primary AND secondary, that you've unlocked. Say you have a PvE M/W and E/Me. You could create a PvP Monk with all the Ele and Mesmer skills you unlocked with the E/Me and sill have the benefit of the Monk skills, too. Am I making sense?

The only benefit a PvE toon gets from PvP toons is that unlocked skills become available at all of the skill trainers of that skill's campaigns. You still have to purchase it for each PvE toon. PvP weapons are PvP only. Heros can also use all skills unlocked by your account, no matter how they're unlocked.

Just don't expect to be pvp ready with your pve toon without either spending alot of cash, or getting loads of collector item stuff and upgrades, and armour, and runes.

You cannot do anything for your PvE character in PvP, unless you count the +25xp you get from killing someone.

You use Pve chars in pvp to show you are somewhat seasoned in the game, also its more fun to play when you are in that uber cool armor and that cool weapon and the awesome shield. Rather than that ugly pvp tower shield that ugly short sword and that ugly excuse for a gladiator armor..

There is no feel of accomplishment with a pvp, I can agree some pvp look really cool in armor for example assassins in imperial. But you can never have a cool looking pvp weapon or sword.
